Tips & Advice

Dishwasher
Dishes not getting dried?

If you notice that your dishes are not drying very well, try adding a rinse aid (such as Jet-Dry®) to your dishwasher. This should solve the problem. If the problem persists, we are happy to come out and run a diagnostic!

White residue on dishes?

Hard water causes white residue on dishes. Dishwasher detergent used to contain phosphate, which prevented hard water from building up on dishes. However, this has been outlawed in many parts of the United States. If you are finding white residue on your dishes, try adding some citrus acid (we recommend Lemi-Shine® ) to your load of dishes along with your usual detergent.

Dryer
Are clothes taking too long to dry?

Check the airflow to the dryer vent. If the vent behind the dryer is kinked and/or full of lint it will prevent the dryer from drying well. Shorten the vent so it has the shortest distance to the wall possible. Also, clean out the vent if needed. Check airflow between the wall and the outside vent. If there isn’t much airflow the vent will need to be cleaned out. This can be done on your own or you can hire a vent cleaning service to do it for you. Over time, dryers build up lint inside of them and become a fire hazard. We recommend every couple of years (or sooner if you have had a venting issue) to have the dryer disassembled and cleaned. Please contact us for an appointment if it has been a while since you have had it cleaned.

Refrigerator
Refrigerator isn’t cooling very well?

The only thing wrong with your refrigerator may be a dirty condenser coil. To get to the condenser coil there is usually a grill on the front of your refrigerator at the bottom that can be removed with either two screws or by pulling firmly if no screws are visible. There is also either a cardboard or metal cover on the back of the refrigerator at the bottom. There should be visible screws that need to be removed to access the condenser coil from the back. We recommend using compressed air to blow out the condenser from both sides. Condenser coils are so compact on new refrigerators that you cannot get to all of it with a vacuum. We recommend doing this yearly (twice a year if you have indoor pets). This is a great preventative measure to prolong the life of your refrigerator. If your refrigerator is still not cooling well, or you would rather not go through the hassle, we can take care of it for you!

Has your water flow slowed down or stopped?

Most refrigerators with a water dispenser have a built-in water filter. The filter has to be replaced periodically because it stops working over time. If your water dispenser begins to slow or there is no water flow, it is probably time to replace the filter. If you have trouble replacing your filter, we are happy to come out and help. We can also provide a water filter that is the manufacturer’s specified filter for your refrigerator.

Garbage Disposal
Is the garbage disposal not spinning?

On the bottom of the garbage disposal, in the center, you will find a hole that fits a 1/4″ Allen wrench. You can turn this either clockwise or counterclockwise to manually turn the motor. This may fix the problem. If the garbage disposal still is not working, you most likely need a new garbage disposal. The replacement is something that can be done on your own, or we are happy to come out and install one for you to save you the headache!
